THE CLEANSING PHONE
Gabija Vėja Bagdonaitė (Lithuania)
The Cleansing Phone is a synthesis of two elements: my personal experience and criticism of capitalist spirituality. It involves the constant adaptation of various diverse ritual practices, continuously cleaning and adding new problems. This relationship has become a purchase and sale of spiritual well-being, resembling more of a peculiar business rather than ritual-meditative practices, from which sensitivity and spirituality seem to be extracted. The Cleansing Phone combines biocratic capitalist spirituality with meditative practices aimed at cleansing one problem or another. Along with the Cleansing Phone, there are various occult tools that themselves have a sequence - what should follow what, serving as another method of suggestion. It is like a store where one can spiritually heal themselves.
Gabija Vėja Bagdonaitė completed her studies in Photography and Media Art at Vilnius Academy of Arts this year and continues her artistic activities. Her main field of interest revolves around exploring the influence of the New Age movement on the contemporary world and attempting to create direct encounters with phenomena. This includes both a return to the romanticization of an archaic worldview, seeking an authentic relationship with nature, and exploring the relationship with the occult world of today.
